Storm and Renée in front of Art on You Studios

Spooktacular Beginnings

Renée M. Anderson and A.W. Storm Anderson founded Art on You Studios on October 17, 2009 on Historic Magna Main in Magna, Utah. It was a tattoos shop that had a jack-o-lantern in boldly centered as the “O” in the “AoY” logo, and the interior of the shop maintained a year-round Halloween and horror theme. They operated the tattoo shop successfully for a decade becoming a staple in the community, holding public offices, hosting community events, and spearheading the Halloween in Summer Festival which was a colossal extravaganza that was filled with several dozen Artists, Creators, Entertainers, Haunters, Cosplayers, Musicians, and Trick-or-Treaters along with a variety of food, two stages of entertainment, and more. All of it laden with Halloween motifs that attracted an estimated 30,000 attendees over the course of the day in the final year that the Andersons hosted the festival. They became known as "The Queen and King of Halloween". And they lived in what the couple called, “The Halloween House”.

Their Ghoul Things Continued

During that period, Renée also regularly used her Master Seamstress skills to create a variety of garments, décor pieces, accessories, and more under the business name, Queen of Halloween. From November 1, 2013 to October 31, 2014, Storm engaged in his “365 Days of Halloween” project whereby he completed an art piece every that had a Halloween element in it. In July of 2016 the book of the same title as the project was released chronicling all 365 artworks plus additional notes and stories.

Still More Fangtastic Adventures

After their 10th Wedding Anniversary and Halloween getaway (yes, of course they were married on October 31st) to Salem, Massachusetts in 2013, the duo came home with a mutual feeling to one day move to the East where so much resonated with them. That same resonance was evoked during their trip to Poughkeepsie in 2016 to attend a huge gathering of like-minded individuals in Poughkeepsie, NY, which is nicknamed, “The Witchcraft District”. They returned to Poughkeepsie and Salem during Halloween Season in 2018, and left knowing one day in the future “The Witchcraft District” was going to undoubtedly become the place where they'd find and live in their forever home while operating a unique establishment utilizing their experiences as Business Owners, Witches, Artists, Extreme Halloween Enthusiasts, and Community Leaders.

The Monster-epic Move

2020 brought Magna residents the Covid-19 pandemic, a massive earthquake, a dead racoon that was found in the local water supply, and insane sociopolitical times that included an enormous protest ending in a riot in downtown Salt Lake City that's just a short distance from Magna. All of that was on top of the ongoing challenges of poor air quality in the Salt Lake Valley. While it wasn't seemingly the most ideal of times to make the move they ultimately wanted to make in their future, the Andersons felt the Universe was saying, "Now, GO!"

By the beginning of August 2020, the Andersons had made their way across the country with the assistance of their eldest daughter and her wife, and their granddaughter to what they called their "In-Betweener Halloween House" until their dream home ultimately presented itself three years later here in “The Witchcraft District”. Renée and Storm live in an 1891 Victorian that is their forever Halloween House, and it is literally Halloween inside and out year-round.

The Hex-cellent Store

October, 2021 Renée opened her Witchcraft District Bazaar at No. 8 Mt. Carmel Pl with witchcraft supplies and ritual tools for a variety of paths, healing crystals, occult items, books, décor, jewelry, magically charged artworks, “Witchcraft District” branded items and novelties, and so much more. Inside the store is also Art on You, a private space where Storm continues to provide dark and witchy tattoos, healing and self-empowering sigil tattoos, as well as artworks in various mediums. However, the Andersons felt they wanted to provide something more. Something overtly Halloween.

Jack-o-Mart is Born

Jack-o-Mart, the name, was first conceived while Renée and Storm were still in Utah as a concept for a year-round Halloween store. However, that never reached fruition, and the name sat dormant until late 2024. As 2024 came to a close, an all-new concept was conjured under that name. Since the end of their festival, the Andersons had long wanted to produce something all new that not only came genuinely from them as Extreme Halloween Enthusiasts but would greatly appeal to die-hard Halloween fanatics. That’s where the Jack-o-Mart subscription box was born.

Unlike other subscription boxes, which may feature Horror, Gothic, or Occult elements with some seasonal Halloween inclusions, Jack-o-Mart is purely dedicated to Halloween nostalgia, traditions, and aesthetics all year. Jack-o-Mart: Tricks, Treats, and Eerie Delights—Shipped to Your Crypt!
